She knows, she knows! She hears it all the time…”Kage with a K? Really? What the…?” Kage has always figured her unique name, with its even more unique spelling, was due to her parents wanting her to have the same initials as her mom. Her parents, however, maintain that it was the only name they could come up with that would be as unique and special as they knew she would be. Were they right, or what?
Nashville recording artist Kage Sanderson grew up a total southern California girl in Orange County, California. She loves to snowboard, surf, and ride motorcycles. Her current bike is a ’97 Harley Davidson. She also loves smoothies, long days at the beach, and hanging out with friends and family.
Since she was very young, Kage has known exactly what she wants to do with her life; Make music. She has been singing ever since she could talk. She strummed her first chords on her daddy’s guitar when she was 3 years old and blossomed from there, to loving the whole process of creating a song, one word, one note, at a time. She found she could put all of her emotions and feelings into a song and then convey those emotions and feelings to others by performing them. Kage says to this day, ideas constantly run through her mind, 24/7, and she does her best to write them down as fast as she thinks of them. It is very important to her that everyone listening to her songs, feels what she was feeling as she wrote them.
Kage loves, and pulls inspiration from, all genres of music, but her music leans more toward the pop/rock/alternative side. When asked which artists she is most influenced by, there is no hesitation before she answers, “Pink, John Mayer, Michelle Branch, Goo Goo Dolls, Rob Thomas, and Train!”
Before moving to Nashville, Kage performed everywhere they would let in a girl and her guitar. She played coffee houses, fairs, house concerts, schools, city sponsored events, etc…
Kage came to Nashville and began playing venues right away. She feels very fortunate to have had the opportunity to play the legendary Bluebird Café, 12th and Porter, The Listening Room, Sirius XM Theater @ The Bridgestone Arena, and numerous other great places.
Kage recorded her first acoustic based EP, “One Day at a Time”, in the fall of 2009, and it was released in the summer of 2010. A tour to support the album is in the works, with stops planned at colleges, high schools, and acoustic venues, as well as in-store appearances.
Kage is proudly a member of SESAC, along with The Recording Academy and Nashville Songwriters Association International (the world’s largest songwriters association).
Giving back to the community is monumental for Kage. She volunteers her time to Musicians On Call, going to hospitals and performing her music for patients. She feels as though she benefits more from her time spent sharing her music, than the patients she is playing for.
Every single day, Kage writes and plays music. She strives to be a better musician tomorrow, than she is today. There is nothing else she would rather do than create and share music. There is no “Plan B”, so she sees no reason not to put 110% into her music. She is well aware that a music career doesn’t happen on its own, or overnight. If you want it, you have to work for it, and she plans to work for it until she gets to where she wants to be, and then keep working on it.
Kage truly hopes that the people who find her music and enjoy it, stay on the journey with her. She knows it’ll be a great one, and she wants to share each and every step with everyone, One Day at a Time…
